We are committed to bringing hope to a child everyday. Get involved and make a difference today.
Upendo Destitutes Home got the name Upendo because it’s through love and mercy that pain of these former street children can be wiped out and be reconciled to the society. Now they are like any other kids participating in going to school and having parents to take care of them in the Home. We began in kibera but shifted to Zimmerman in 2021 when our shelter fell during heavy rain, so this is a new project that needs much input. Our Basis was originally grounded in our Christian roots, and is now enriched and shared by people of many other faiths and no religious faith, reflecting the diversity of our society today.
Also, our aspiration is to become a leader in the field of trauma informed work with vulnerable children and families. This means bringing a holistic mind, body and heart approach to our work and draws on recent progress in the understanding of human development and how the brain works. This aspiration is underpinned by a promise to help vulnerable children overcome adverse experiences, have happier childhoods and achieve better outcomes for them and their families. Our values, mission, vision and objectives act as a green thread that runs through all our plans, across every team and department.
UPENDO DESTITUTE CHILDREN'S HOME aims to create a world where every child can receive the necessary help, irrespective of their circumstances. They provide services and collaborate with families, communities, and future partners to transform the lives of vulnerable children affected by adverse childhood experiences.
